Unwaxing Poetics: The Poetry of Song is a documentary television series that examines iconic songs through the lens of literary criticism. Hosted by poet and literary scholar Jaiden Hordosillo, each episode performs a close reading of a single song, revealing the symbolism, mythology, narrative structure, archetypes, metaphors, and philosophical ideas hidden within its lyrics.
The series challenges a long-held assumption of literary culture: that poetry belongs exclusively to the page. Instead, Unwaxing Poetics argues that some of the most influential poetic works of the modern era emerged outside traditional literary institutions– through song.
“Lyrics are poetry that is created outside of kept gates.”
